Beginner's sessions

The beginner’s sessions run on every Tuesday 19:00-20:30 in sports hall 1B.

The next taster session, with the aim of getting everyone to give it a go very quickly, will be on the 25th November. Sign up for this give it a go session at the ARC (in the union) or turn up on the day!

The normal format for sessions:

  • A quick warm up
  • Footwork
  • Blade work
  • Fights
The first few weeks will be designed to give you the basics of fencing technique. The programme will then be to teach:
  • Parry Quarte
  • Disengage
  • Beat Attack
Then training will built on and become more complex with revision of moves already learnt. Training will also be on an individual basis to develop your own style of fencing.

All kit is provided and the first session of the term are free (then it is necessary to pay £30 membership).

On Tuesday 9th December we will be holding a competition between the beginners to introduce competitive fencing. This will be a really fun way to round off the term's learning!
