Newsletter March 2009

Teams

Firstly, congratulations to both the men’s 1st and women’s teams as they both won their leagues.

Both teams are now going up for promotion to the Northern premiership leagues.

The men’s first have their first match against Loughborough on the 11th of March, away.

The women’s have won their first match against Liverpool on the 7th of March, and will go on to play Warwick on the 18th of March, at home.

We wish them all the best of luck.

The men’s 2nd team has also fought fantastically to finish 4th in their league, a brilliant result for a newly formed team.

Beginners

Well done to all our beginner fencers, we’ve seen a huge amount of improvement recently, and as you excel you’ll be moved up to advanced training.

Another beginner’s competition will be held on Tuesday the 10th of March, during normal training time, good luck to all that enter!

Club Competition

We are holding our third annual club competition on Sunday the 15th of March. This is a really fun event and many fencers from the surrounding area, and other universities take part. Entry is only £10 for club members. Epee and Sabre will be mixed events and foil will separated into men’s and women’s. The entry forms can be found on our club website.

AGM

On Tuesday the 17th of March we will be holding our club AGM. There are loads of positions to go for. If you want any more information on what a position entails have a look on our website or grab a committee member and they can explain the role of their position. If you don’t want to be a committee member, come down to vote, remember, these people will be running your club next year!

This is also a chance for you to raise any issues, if you have any please e-mail them to our secretary Rachael (or find her at club) so they can be included in the agenda.

Socials

It was great that so many fencers could make it to the sports ball, definitely the most represented club and it was a wicked night out!

Then many of the club members went bowling last Wednesday, a lot of fun!

The last social of the term is being held on Friday the 13th of March. Meet for drinks in the terrace at 8:30 and then on party the night away at fruity!

Kit

We’ve bought some new kit. Namely electric foils, epees and sabres along with some spare blades (although we’ve already broken an epee, so please be gentle!)
