University of Leeds Fencing Club Newsletter October 2008
News from club captain Epee Training Day As advertised on the website, this Saturday's advanced training session will be slightly different. There will be a distinct Epee focus. Coach Dave Jerry is coming down to take group and individual lessons from 1030 till 1230. There will also be free fencing for foil, epee and sabre. So if you fancy giving epee a go, or want to improve your skills ahead of BUCS matches, come down at 1030 on Saturday! Women's Team The team trials will take place from 2 till 5, in sports Hall 3 THIS WEDNESDAY (15th Oct.). Come and try out for the team. Everybody welcome! Contact Hayley for more details! The chosen team’s first match is on the 22nd October in sports hall 3 and it would be great to see as many people as possible down to show their support. Men’s 1st team The boys have their first match next Wednesday the 15th against Keele, away. We wish them good luck and hopefully a great start to the season! Men's 2nd team The Team now has 2 new captains. Samson Williams and Edward Wang will be leading the team to BUCS glory this season. The team has their first match is away on 22nd October against Sheffield. Lots of luck guys! It was great to see so many people from the taster session come back for training on Tuesday, and some new faces too. The beginners are definitely getting off to a flying start and they’ll soon all be challenging the old hands! Training will be taking place again this Tuesday, sports hall 1B 7-10pm. Socials We’ve got three more socials planned for this term! In November we’re going to go on the infamous Otley run and in December we have a relaxed Sunday lunch followed by a trip to the cinema planned. But the next social coming up is on Monday 27th October. We’ll be having a meal at Las Iguanas and then going on to rave it up at the cub Mint. Tickets for the event will be on sale on Tuesday night for £5. Time to get dancing again! Competitions This weekend was the Leicester Open; it was a fun road-trip for everyone. We had a great time and results will follow as they become official. Next up we have the Bedford Open next weekend and the Welsh Open on the 8th and 9th of November. Hope to see as many of you as possible there! Kit The club has bought new cages to store kit, providing excellent security and a much better way of keeping the kit organised. We’ve also invested in new steam foils to augment our current supply to allow us to keep up with demand from the beginners! We'd also like to make everybody aware of some new rules regarding kit: Please do not take any kit out of the sports centre without explicit permission from the club captain or armourer. If you are playing for the team, please make your respective team captain aware of any club kit you will need - it is then the team captain's role to ensure they bring what their team needs and have t returned by the next training session.
